Terms of Use

These conditions govern use of the website. Visiting a page, reading its material, or submitting a search signifies acceptance of every term below. If you disagree with any condition, discontinue use of the website.

NO FCRA USE. This privately operated website has no affiliation with a local, Illinois, or federal government agency. Neither the website nor its advertising partners provides a service intended for credit, employment, insurance, tenant, or any other decision regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Its purpose is to identify Bureau County and Illinois criminal-record resources. It is neither a private investigation business nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This is a private reference site operated independently of government. It does not hold official criminal records, retrieve official files, conduct official background checks, or submit documents for a visitor.

Its material directs readers to the custodians of Bureau County criminal records, including the Bureau County Sheriff's Office, Bureau County Circuit Court, Illinois State Police Bureau of Identification, and Illinois Sex Offender Registry, also called I-SORT. Outside research tools may also be linked.

2. Rules for Using This Site

As a condition of access, you agree not to:

  • Use automated scrapers, bots, or similar tools on these pages
  • Interfere with performance or prevent another person from gaining access
  • Attempt unauthorized entry into any account, server, or system
  • Use the information to stalk, threaten, or harass a person
  • Rely on the content for housing, hiring, credit, or insurance decisions
  • Violate any applicable local, Illinois, or federal law

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

Information obtained here or through a linked resource may not be used to stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or unlawfully discriminate against anyone. That prohibition is especially important for I-SORT information. Illinois registry warnings forbid harassment or threats against a registrant or family member, and conduct such as stalking or threats may be prosecuted under applicable law. Registry data serves community safety awareness, not vigilantism or unlawful exclusion.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and do not create consumer reports, credit reports, or background checks. Our advertising partners likewise do not offer tools here for evaluating applicants, insurance risk, rental applications, or credit. You may not use information from these pages or a linked feature to:

  • Set an insurance rate or assess creditworthiness
  • Evaluate a housing or rental application
  • Make a hiring or termination decision
  • Determine eligibility for a license, permit, or public program
  • Carry out any other activity regulated by the FCRA

When a lawful purpose requires such a report, use an appropriate FCRA-compliant provider or the official process authorized through the Illinois State Police Bureau of Identification.

5. No Legal Advice

The material is general information, not legal advice. It cannot determine how an Illinois charge, warrant, conviction, sealing rule, or expungement provision applies to a particular person. Consult a lawyer licensed in Illinois for advice about a specific matter.

6. No Warranties

All content is supplied "as is," without a promise that:

  • Outside search results will be complete or correct
  • Pages will contain no defect, error, or security weakness
  • Access will always remain available and uninterrupted
  • Any item is complete, accurate, or current at a given moment

Criminal records can change after charges are filed, amended, dismissed, sealed, or expunged. Delays and gaps can occur. Only the Bureau County or Illinois office maintaining the original record can provide its official statement.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may lead to the Bureau County Sheriff, Circuit Clerk, Illinois State Police, I-SORT, legal-aid organizations, and independent search services. We do not control an external destination and are not responsible for its material, data practices, charges, accuracy, or availability. Review the destination's terms before proceeding.

8. Intellectual Property

The website's text, code, graphics, and logos belong to Bureau County Criminal History or its content partners. They may not be copied, adapted, distributed, or used to create another work without prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we have no liability for damages resulting from use of the website, including reliance on content obtained here or through an external service.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless against a claim, demand, or legal proceeding arising from your use of the website or violation of these terms, including related costs and legal fees.

11. Governing Law

Illinois law governs these terms. Any action arising from website use must be brought in a court located in Illinois. The Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, governs requests to Illinois public bodies, while the Uniform Conviction Information Act, 20 ILCS 2635, governs state dissemination of conviction information. Neither statute makes this private website a public office or official repository.

12. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be revised at any time. A revision becomes effective when the updated text is posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or terminated at any time, for any reason, and without advance notice.

14. Severability

If any provision is held invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions continue in effect. The affected language will be modified only to the extent required for enforceability.

15. Questions

Questions concerning these terms may be submitted through the Contact page.
